Tina & Kanon
A May wedding pared back to almost nothing: a circle of dusty-blue hydrangea on a white terrace, a violinist, a handful of people who mattered, and a table for two above the sea.
Tina and Kanon didn't want a crowd. They wanted the light, the water and the people who raised them — and that was the entire brief. We set a low circle of white and dusty-blue hydrangea on a round white platform, put a violinist beside it, and left everything else out.
After the vows we walked them down to a small blue-domed chapel for portraits, then out along the whitewashed terraces as the sun dropped. There's a photograph of the two of them lying flat on the white stone, her veil thrown out across it, that still makes me smile.
Dinner was a single round table for two at the cliff edge, a beaded chandelier above it and blue delphinium on the cloth. They cut a small cake, the violin started again, and the last frames of the day are the pair of them alone on the rock with the caldera going navy behind them.
